Timothy Clark – Cabinetmaker/Chairwright

Turning inspiration into craftsmanship

Tim Clark is an experienced, respected cabinetmaker and chairwright—and boat builder—in Vermont. His work adorns many homes, offices, hotels, and public institutions, and has even been included in art installations. We take a small bit of pride in Tim’s accomplishments, as his early training and inspiration were under the tutelage of our own Monica Brien when he worked several summers as her apprentice and helper in the JAY-K Lumber Custom Wood Shop in the early 1980s.

“She inspired me to become a craftsman and devote my work life to building furniture,” Tim said of Monica, his former mentor. Tim’s workshop is located just outside of Middlebury, Vermont, where he lives with wife Mimi and son Ben.

Tim, a Master Furniture Maker, handcrafts traditional and modern Windsor Chairs, Windsor rocking chairs, Windsor benches, and Shaker-inspired furniture designs. His chairs, benches, bed frames, cases, and tables are built for comfort and beauty, and made to last for generations.

He builds his furniture from native hardwoods, with an eye for graceful elegance and simplicity that is evident in his work. Tim, a member of the Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers, is known for his attention to joinery, wood selection, details, and ergonomics. He also passes on what he has learned over the years in occasional wood-crafting workshops.
